i agree with you! I really like Mayday,i find them very talented. Their Lead vocal, Shin writes most of their songs, and he also writes songs for other artists! And I like teir music because it has a variety..

with regards to Shin, i found his voice very powerful and i like the way he sings ballad rather than rock, but i like 'One Night in Beijing"

I think S.H.E. is straight up pop, but most Chinese rock has varying degrees of pop in it.

They do, but most of it is underground. I have a friend who's in an underground Beijing metal band that plays at the Midi Rock Festival (midi just a pun on the electronic stuff, I think) which I saw.

Rock music in general doesn't get on television (cuz the govt don like it), and it isn't big with the youth (oddly enough...it was big during Tiananmen era though), so you don't get it over here in the West.

I'd upload some of the metal/electronica Chinese music I have, but I don't have access to the playground because of the 20 post thing.

You can find a lot of Midi Rock Festival videos on youtube. Whats your friends band name?

In any case 春秋 (Spring and Autumn) play power trash, it's formed by Tang Dynasty's former bassist after leaving the band.

末裔 (The Last Successor) play great progressive metal with a few power influences. I love the prominent bass and their keyboardist is just great.

I generally use http://wiki.rockinchina.com/index.ph...sts&Itemid=118 to find bands, or I just youtube 'chinese rock' or 'chinese metal'.

There are a few people actually
I know Kaiser Kuo who's in 春秋... he's kinda an a-hole irl but he's pretty prominent in the Chinese rock scene. Also I met and hung out with 张帆, who heads the Midi Festival.

My other friend is less known, but he's been in several metal bands (screaming anti-gov stuff at the festival too, haha), his name is 郭智勇.

I'm Chinese, but if you ask me, I'd say that even Faye Wong is more of a rocker than S.H.E and Sodagreen.

Rock isn't about what instruments you put in the song, it's about the spirit and personality.

    Anyone with me?

I'm a big fan of Kaiser Kuo's work, he was also in Tang Dynasty, that's some good stuff there.

Sodagreen is great! But it's true, there's no much Mandarin rock music, or what we consider rock... most of it is really pop-like. They don't allow rock on the radio...
But there's a Shanghai rock band called Pinkberry.
