The following is making the rounds these days in Chinese internet chat rooms.

The number 8 is a lucky number in Chinese culture. That is why the Beijing Olympics chose to start at 8 p.m. on August 8 (8/8/08).

Here is what has happened this year.

1/25 brought a giant snow storm, a disaster from the sky.

3/14 brought the suppression in Tibet, a disaster from humans.

5/12 brought the earth quake, a disaster from the ground.

1+2+5 = 8

3+1+4 = 8

5+1+2 = 8

8/8/08 is date for the Olympics.

The 5/12 earthquake is 88 days away from the Olympic date of 8/8/08.

In Chinese culture, numbers in the calendar are often used in prophecy.


i also heard it on the radio, that the next thing thats gonna happen has to do with some painting with a fish on top...and it has something to do with fire...

The number 8 is considered to be very lucky in Chinese culture is it not? So it seems very likely that they would choose the date they did to hold the Olympics, especially since its in China this year.

number 7 is the western worlds lucky number.

in the end numbers are numbers..... nothing but coincidences that may seem significant but really its just some random occurance. Its not rocket science nor some eccentric sophisticated choas theory but can be simply explained with that age old saying......... "SHIT HAPPENS"

8 sounds like "fatt" in cantonese and fatt means that getting rich or rich...
Although i am chinese myself, but i really don't think 8 is my lucky number. And chinese also think that by putting no 8 beside to no.address or phone number, in order to become rich by doing so....

8 sounds like "fatt" in cantonese and fatt means that getting rich or rich...

It is true....The Old Folks say it and it is pass till now....It became lucky number since it has similar sound with the cantonese 'rich' ... Where else '4' is unlucky number, which has similar sound to 'die' in chinese ...
