Sharon Stone said at the Cannes Film Festival: "I thought, 'Is that karma?' When you are not nice, bad things happen to you."
Film star Sharon Stone has set off a storm of fury across China after she suggested the deadly earthquake that killed as many as 80,000 people was bad karma for Beijing policy in Tibet. (A video of Stone's 'inappropriate' quake karma remarks attached below.)
Stone said she "cried" after the Tibetan Foundation asked her to help quake victims: "they wanted to go and be helpful, and that made me cry. It was a big lesson to me that sometimes you have to learn to put your head down and be of service even to people who aren't nice to you."
She also said, "I'm not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma?"

Stone's remarks lead to pledges by some Chinese cinemas not to show her films, and reportedly motivating Dior to remove advertisements with her image in China.
Her comments also created a swell of anger on the internet, including famous Chinese public forum Tianya.cn devoted solely to disparaging her comments.
