North Korea Develops Special Anti-Hunger Noodle

North Korea does not produce enough food to feed its population, as a result, North Korean scientists have developed a new kind of noodle that delays feelings of hunger!

The special anti-hunger noodles were made from corn and soybeans, the Choson Shinbo said.

They left people feeling fuller longer and represented a technological breakthrough, the newspaper said.

North Korea is dependent on foreign food aid. Last month the UN warned that residents were experiencing their worst food shortages in a decade.

But the communist country remains reluctant to allow experts to fully assess the scale of the problem or give them adequate access to deliver aid.

    UN warnings

According to the newspaper, which is seen as closely linked to the Pyongyang leadership, the new noodles have twice as much protein and fives times as much fat as ordinary noodles.

"When you consume ordinary noodles (made from wheat or corn), you may soon feel your stomach empty. But this soybean noodle delays such a feeling of hunger," it said on its website.

The noodles would be available soon across North Korea, the newspaper said.

An estimated one million people starved to death in North Korea in the late 1990s after natural disasters and government mismanagement devastated the country's economy.

In July, the World Food Programme warned that six million people were in urgent need of food aid, following severe flooding last year.

Most households had cut their food intake and more people are scavenging for wild foods, WFP assessors found.

wow, thats how desperate they are to keep control of the country, even to a point of starvation
sooner or later everyone will starve again and people might riot...if theyre in the right mindset

The problem with the noodles is that although they delay the feeling of hunger, they do not make up the nutrition that the starving population desperately needs. I can understand the addition of twice the protein, since protein consumption is thermogenic and essential, but FIVE times the fat?! There's a difference between starvation and malnutrition, and obviously that point is missed here. North Korea seems to only be concerned with decreasing their dependence on foreign aid rather than providing proper nutrition to their people.

I feel some trouble in this idea. Just because it delays the feeling of hunger, does the body know the same thing? Perhaps the feeling is only delayed while hunger is still at work on the body. One can still starve to death, just not feel it. Feelings of pain and hunger are there for a reason.

same thought here. was wondering if the noodles are made with more nutrients so that the body doesn't get hungry as fast or if it just does something to your nervous system so that you don't feel the hunger. if its the first one, wouldn't that still use more food, which they don't have enough of anyways? and if they're using artificial ingredients, it sounds unappealing.

instead of wasting money in making lab food, why not grow more crops?
As much as you all can stand to watch shit I would piss, shit, and vomit upon, I would expect others to feel the same way, so I'm not offended. Just be glad that you all don’t like shit that I like. I sure as hell am glad I don’t like shit you all like.

barely any room for crops considering the landscape they cant really do proper farming.

wonder if they'll ever make noodles like that elsewhere, would be good if they could refine them a bit (less fat, etc) and throw it into instant noodles.
