Change your underwear?? Forget about it!!

J-Ware clothing, which was created by textile experts at the Womens University in Tokyo, may transform the chore of changing ones underwear into a thing of the past.

Koichi Wakata, the first Japanese astronaut to live on the International Space Station, is now involved in a project that has more to do with personal hygiene than outer space exploration, as he is currently the tester for a new line of stink-free underwear called J-Ware.

He can wear his trunks (underwear) more than a week. The other astronauts become very sweaty, but he doesnt have any sweat. He didnt need to hang his clothes to dry, said Koji Yanagawa, an official with the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency.

The underwear, which was developed by researcher Yoshiko Taya, is very versatile. It is designed to kill bacteria, absorb water, insulate the body and dry quickly. Believe it or not, they are also flame-resistant and anti-static, not to mention comfortable and stylish.

It is expected that J-Ware will greatly reduce the amount of clothing sent to the space station, which has no laundry facilities. Having clothes that can stay fresh for weeks at a time is expected to reduce expenditures significantly.

Nobody has complained, so I think its so far, so good, said the non-smelling tester himself.

This is quite interesting! Perfect for astronauts, students and travelers alike! .. then again, maybe we should scratch students, since they will most likely cost as much as the rest of those space gadgets.
I wonder how they were able to make something like this. Did they infuse the fabric with some kind of chemical compound which kills bacteria? But wouldn't that mean these can only be used a couple of times and the effect will eventually wear off when washed?
Hmm, but I guess even if this is true, that it's still more efficient than sending up more clothes. Well, hats off again to the high-tech Godzilla spawning Japanese engineers and scholars!

I agree about the filth thing. Who cares if it kills bacteria, other crap will build up. You dont just sweat water and bacteria, theres other things. Also, about where its rubbin up against come on who wants that sh.... ok I'll stop there hahhahaha

I am not 1 bit sold on this except for its seemingly practical use for astronauts

Why would the underwear need to be flame resistant? :O

    ...this is kind of funny...

i agree about the cost, though! it sounds like a simple enough concept, but imagine how much they would be!! DD

i still feel more comfortable changing underwear....i mean, for females, what about 'that time of the month?' this was definitely invented by a male.

you don't need to change the underwear but that does mean that you don't have to shower either.
So the "Filth" as you say wont be there unless you have an accident
Then you would have to change them even if they kill bacteria
I think this sort of underwear is good for athletes.
not people that don't want to shower

To have underwear that capable to kill bacteria is cool but to wear for a week without changing any, men that's creepy..
It have a lot of benefit but I guess it would be thick enough to have all the benefits on the underwear
