A trip to the beach during winter?

Feel like heading to the beach on a nice freezing day in japan? Now you can!

The world's only indoor beach can be found in Miyazaki, Japan (1200 miles south of Tokyo) on Japan's southernmost Kyushu Island.

Here the water is always blue, the waves are perfectly timed and it's never too hot or too cold to take a swim!

The Ocean Dome has its own marble sand and even a volcano that shoots out flames every hour. The shores are sanitized so that swimmers can drip-dry in the perfect climate.

For the all too good to be true beach; admission is about $50 US. But hey for a relaxing day at the beach without sun burns it might be worth it!

wow, i have to admit, that does sound pretty cool
but personally i feel that nothing can simulate the natural environment.
what about stinky sand that smells like feet?

i wonder how much energy that complex takes to operate...

Wow, this could be really cool except the person building it overlooked one thing...

Kyushu?? Really??? The place is hot all year round and is covered in beaches lol
you'd think they'd at least make it in Hokkaido or somewhere close to Tokyo.

I guess some people like the idea of everything being sterile and "clean" as appose to the unpredictible danger of nature! Duhn duhn duhhhh

wow...that's so amazing...i wonder how much it costs to operate a single day...and the chlorine they probably use...

also, doens't this remind you of Kyouya's Indoor tropical forest vacation spot--from Ouran Host Club--to think it actually cam true ^_^

I'm not much of a beach person, but this beach sounds pretty good! No need to worry about dirty water (unless they use chlorine, since I'm allergic to chlorine) as well as dirty sand. But I'm sure that this simulated beach can't really compare to a tropical paradise!

It sounds pretty cool and it seems beautiful!
Maybe it is only similar to the sea, but people feel same emotions!

Did this re-open? Cause I read it was closed for renovations

I'm going to Japan in August, and if this is open, I would LOVE to go. The Miyazaki Special for the old Korean Variety Show, X-Man, was filmed here

this is awesome. i would like to visit such a place at least once just to see an indoor beach that's supposed to be perfect. and haha cinnamon89, i didn't think about that, but when you mentioned it, the beach really does remind me of ouran host club. seems like something extravagant only rich people would do, but it could be really popular with places not near beaches.

I think this artificial beach (called the Seagaia Ocean Dome) permanently closed October 1, 2007. Apparently, the resort decided to move on with other services and activities instead of maintaining their artificial beach.

I saw this a long time ago on Discovery channel. I think it was on a program called superstructures or something. It is quite an engineering feat! Not only the wave simulation, which, if I remember correctly, could create waves big enough to surf on! There was something like special grating near the "shoreline" which could 'absorb' these big waves as if they were nothing, I believe. Speaking of surfing, I'd love to learn that sometime... and in a safe environment such as this, it would be perfect! Too bad it's closed for good! Then again, I think I'd rather chill at an onsen when in Japan. I live only an hour's jog away from the beach anyway.
Another great engineering feat was the roof, which can be opened or closed depending on the weather.

The beach already closed? I guess it does really costly..I bet people really considering the money that they spending for.
I think I would much more enjoy the God creations. It's not like that I won't enjoy to go to artificial beach, but I prefer having peace of mind for not spending much more money than regret it later.. hehehehe...
