The art of “Dekotora” “or in simple English “pimping trucks” is a very know art in Japan. The truckers are decorating the trucks with neon lights, shiny paints and add everything that can be glued to the top of the truck. These trucks are used only as hobby trucks only and do not being used as commercial trucks.
The trend has probably begun in the ‘70, and was inspired by a film called “Trucker”. The main character in the film drives a much customized truck.

I kind of wonder why people would do this. I mean, sure, it's awesome to be able to express yourself at such a large AND mobile scale. Imagine all the ~fun~ things you can do in the trailer!! Then again, why not go with a mangachara pimped Rx7 FD akiba style? Surely a lot cheaper, faster, easier to pick up girls with but probably somewhat more dangerous too, with the touge and all.
I've seen these dekotora appear in Great Teacher Onizuka and I believe in Initial D as well! I always feel as if they are somehow related to Bosozoku, am I mistaken?
There also appears to be a Playstation game franchise going under the name of Bakusou Dekotora Densetsu, cool! Makes me wonder if I can unluck a dekotora in GT4...

How do truckers clean their trucks anyway? I don't imagine they just hose them down... Imagine all the work these dekotora people have polishing all that chrome! No wonder they would need to be pimps....
