    Video game simulates raping women...

A Japanese computer game maker on Friday dismissed a protest by U.S. rights campaigners against the game “RapeLay,” which lets players simulate sexual violence against females. New York-based Equality Now launched a campaign this week “against rape simulator games and the normalisation of sexual violence in Japan.”

It urged activists to write in protest to the maker and Prime Minister Taro Aso, arguing the game breaches Japan’s obligations under the 1985 Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

The Yokohama-based games manufacturer Illusion brushed off the campaign.

“We are simply bewildered by the move,” said spokesman Makoto Nakaoka. “We make the games for the domestic market and abide by laws here. We cannot possibly comment on the campaign because we don’t sell them overseas.”

Players earn points for acts of sexual violence, including stalking girls on commuter trains, raping virgins and their mothers, and forcing females to get abortions, according to the group’s online statement.

Japan, often criticized as a major producer of child pornography, in 1999 banned the production, distribution and commercial use of sexually arousing photos, videos and other materials involving those aged under 18.

However, the law did not criminalize possession of such materials, and the ban also failed to cover child porn in animation and computer graphics, often categorized as “hentai” (pervert).

U.S. online retail giant Amazon in February took RapeLay off its websites after receiving complaints but clips of the game were still available this week on popular video sharing websites.

A Japan Committee for UNICEF spokeswoman said the Japanese loophole hindered international efforts to crack down on child porn.

“In this globalized world, connected via the Internet, even one loophole could jeopardize all the regulations,” she said. “The world trend is to try to ban even the accessing and looking at websites of virtual images.”

A spokeswoman for the Japanese government’s gender equality bureau said the office “realizes the problem is there”.

“While we recognize that some sort of measures need to be taken, the office is currently studying what can be done,” she said.

It's so creepy how many pedophiles are out there. Places like 4chan are a playground for them. But what's creepier is that the Japanese government has been run by dumbasses for decades. Dumbasses who allow the production and distribution of pedophile games, anime and manga. And like it says in the article, it's only since 1999 that taking sexy pictures of little girls naked is illegal there! Incredible!

To be honest, I read about this news for quite sometime now.

how this group of female right activist doing all this thing to ban and what not....I would like to comment this on a self opinion based/somewhat factorial over this matter with the following.

Those who might feel offended from reading and keeping an open mind from people's ideal, please do refrain from reading this.

    in any case...

Everyone have things they need to satisfy, it's only natural for all of us to have some sort of satisfaction, the company that makes all these eroge game in Japan attempt to make money out of the fact that there are people who need satisfaction because let's be honest...there are people who can't get some or there are people who simply just have this as a hobby. Whether it's something simple as the regular sex entertainment game to something hardcore such as rape/S&M, they're hoping to satisfy their customer through these game and earning a honest living out of it. Though publicly, people tend to shy away and view with disgust; but honestly said, there are a good half of those crowd that buys this cause they know it's striking their interest.

One might argue "well, that's just sick, rape? sex? eroge? ewwww! seriously, instead of this, why not just go get a real person and do it?"

We have to keep one thing in mind we absolutely CANNOT impose our idea of "justification" onto others. And by the time these individual with lust and fetish ACTUALLY comes out to actually "get someone" I think then we have a issue.

This is how one might think of it. People always say it's not good to hold-in your emotions, they are unhealthy. This applies to many thing, such as this. If we starve the crowd that are deprived of (and believe me, there are people like this) having to play something like this to satisfy their "need" or "want", we just might see something more severe as result of them suppressing their desire. They might act out of place or do something which can be considered "vastly dangerous" in worst cases.

Maybe to many of us, and to the feminist right group whose of the western hemisphere, it is something absolutely horrible because of the fact that America tend to censor many thing to appropriate their children, thinking by doing so, they prevent horrors from drilling into the young generation's mind.

It's okay for them to think that way, and it's understandable why they would want to ban the sale of the game "rapelay" in US. But however, one might view their take on trying to ban the sale internationally as "a way to impede the norm of another country by applying the beliefs/idea of their own over the others." The spokesperson for illusion already said they were doing this sale honestly under Japanese government law,

yet these people goes over there and argue "na uh you can't do that! cause it's wrong where we're coming from and should be wrong there too!" I think this action is just a bit going overboard. This is like saying, "gun is bad! we should just throw the guns away and disable those who manufacture guns!"

Obviously, that's just plain INSANE, things are made for a purpose, though they might seem harmful to some, but they are of necessity to other. Why the relevance to gun one might ask?

Look at it this way, gun is lethal, it can take lifes, we don't usually see gun in daily life. However, they are use by law-enforcement and they provide protection, and it's illegal for someone to possess it unless there is a license.

Eroge are disgusting, rather shameful. There are things that is in eroge that we wouldn't even want to be bother with. But they are not wrong, they satisfy the audience who buys them/need them. In a sense, they provide release (ie: sexual tension, suppressed emotion, fetish etc.)

Though I feel like my argument is not complete and sound, but I do believe I made some points that are to be considered when it comes to matter trivial as such. I do not ask for agreement/disagreement, but one such as I find this issue a bit over-board and ridiculous.

Good post Altaisenimpact, I agree with most of what you said. Now I don't like this kind of porn either and I don't really understand how other people can get off on it, however thats not the point. Some people forget that it's a game! These people getting raped or doing the raping are characters not real people with real lives!
To ban this game is no better than banning say Grand Theft Auto because it encourages people to do drugs and kill civilians on the street. It's clearly a ridiculous argument, not everyone who plays violent games is a murderer or even wants to commit actual murder. Nor will everyone who plays these rape games want to rape an actual human being or have sex with children. It may even stop the few of them who actually do want to do this thing, at least with this game they have an outlet for their fantasies, something that they can turn to and act out their fantasies without hurting anyone...

I just wanna say that if U.S thinks that the game is not appropriate to be published, it's fair enough by asking peoples in their country to ban the games. It is OK if you just wanna gives some advices but do not go deeper.

My advice is that if you wanna play the games, make sure that there are no children watching you playing the games because they have sharp memory and they are great imitator.

Wow, what a sick bunch. They must have been abused when they were little because how can you possibly create such a detestable game. And not to put hentai in the same category, but it was only a matter of time before some Japanese people got together and crossed the line. Think about all the women/men who have been raped, the collateral damage they get from such a raping. I mean, those hentai 3D games was over the top as well, I was curious and tried to run one, but I never ran it again. Though it's not as bad as this rape game.

That was my initial post, but then I read the other posts because I might as well.

I agree that the U.S. is censoring a lot of stuff, and might be overprotecting to their children, can't really say I know where that came from.. And I agree that it isn't right to make another country have the same rules on the belief that that is not acceptable in their country. But for some reason I can't say that I disagree with Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. (probably not the correct term/group)

But it's not just the U.S. I don't recall there ever being any kind of game like this anywhere. In Europe or anywhere else. So it's more like: we don't do this in the rest of the world, so you can't do this either... would be interesting to hear what the Japanese people says about such a game, are they really okay with such a game? I mean, hentai have been existing for a long time, so maybe it's just another + to their wierd culture compared to the rest of the world. Even rape have been seen in various versions of hentai, did they do anything to stop that? Isn't it kinda the same actually?

Raping in hentai and then this rape game? I mean, is there a difference?

I'm Danish, and we of course have porn here, and you can buy porn magazines in regular stores, especially those when you're waiting for the train or bus. **** yeah it goes against our/my beliefs, and my personal opinion, and I still stand by my initial post that it's ****ing disgusting...

But the question here is, can we really do something about it? Shouldn't Japan just get to run its own course. I mean, they're probably fine with it if they haven't said anything? Though, on the other hand, Japan is known for depressing women, you know, where the women have less to say in a relationship, or has that changed in Japan or never existed?

About those laws, what could possibly explain those half-assed leaders reaons for not bringing down a law like those mentioned. I mean, I always thought Japan was such a nice country, well-built and extremely good lead, but this rises questions. But maybe I let anime have a too great influence in my opinion of the country, because can you create something great and awesome like anime even though the country is kinda "weak". I guess you can..

Well, I could take some time to accurate my explains, but I'll try to talk myself out of it if I sound out of place, got some stuff to eat now~

the problem with this "Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women" or any such group (i dunno any names of such organizations, but that's not the point), is the "2-way standard" (if i can name it like that in english). it's kinda like with racism. i mean, if white calls black a ****, it's racism, if black calls white a **** - it's just insult, nothing serious. here it is the same. They are all against this rape game, because it involves raping women. what would happen if it was men raping game? i don't think anyone would care. well, mostly because such a game wouldn't have any success, but whatever.

considering content of the game itself: let's face it, we hear everyday on the radio that there have been X murders, Y rapes, Z fires and so on today (oh, and by the way, seeing dead bodies in news on tv is definitely not a good thing for children too). the fact that rape happens in world is not a secret to anyone. the way rape is done - everybody knows it from movies. so what's the difference between you, who is playing a rape game, and a director, who is creating the same rape act? oh, yeah, director is already an adult, while you may still be a child. don't ****ing sell this game to children. (note, that i don't mean that in movies you see the whole rape, like the naked women and such, but the "basics" are shown lol. the "sex part" you can see in porn)

    also,
raping is a crime? let's ban this stupid game!
killing is a crime? let's ban every shooter out there!
speeding is a crime? let's ban most of the racing simulators!
stealing is a crime? let's ban GTA series, Mafia and such!
    let's play freaking zuma!

where the hell is it going to lead us? THE GAMES ARE MADE TO DO THINGS YOU CAN'T IN REAL LIFE!

and the last thing (maybe not):
to those, who say something along the lines of: this game will teach people how to rape and so the will go out and rape everybody (reminds me of johannes krauser II haha) - it's NOT the game that makes people do such things. it's their stupid mind.
remember those stories about people that played WOW or Lineage for couple of days in a row? like 60+ hours? oh yeah, he died because of the computer game! let's ban them all! come on! he played FREAKING 60 HOURS! if he had been running for 60+ hours (sport is healthy, right?), he would've died too! (probably because of heart attack)

as i thought, the above part was not last.

let's imagine such situation. a man comes home from work, he had a hard day, he got almost fired, and now he is veeerrry angry! one wrong word a he will kick ya (poor wife, right?). then, he goes to his computer, turns rapelay on, rapes some girl (optionally getting off too xD), his mood rises up and he is in good condition again! isn't that perfect?

you can replace "rapelay" with any hobby you like. but since some people like such games, why not?

i guess that's it for now.

    edit:
oh, and btw, i've watched one video of that rapelay game. it's kinda stupid. the girl grabs guy's hand, takes him into some quiet place, and when he hung hers, she screams HANASHITE!!!. and graphic is pretty bad too.

That is the part that is the most troubling. It's so easy to find hentai pictures, videos or games that involve little underaged girls. It's also possible to find naked pics of 7-year-old Japanese girls. Not pics that were taken in a basement, but pics that were released in a photo album or a DVD. It even happened to some Japanese celebrities who are now famous actresses or singers now. Of course, it was before the 1999 law.

But what's scary is that I've noticed that a lot of people get excited about such things! And it's not just Japanese people, it's spreading around the world. Anyone who spent some time in 4chan can confirm this. I know a lot of people say that killing is also a crime and they use the "we should ban shooters" argument, etc., but you don't have a part in your brain that tells your body that you should kill people. When it comes to sex, there's a part of your brain that makes your horny, it makes you wanna let yourself loose and do things you wouldn't even imagine in a normal state. Everyone knows how different we are when we become horny.

Perhaps, someone can get used to the child porn because they see it so much that it becomes "normal" or they feel indifferent towards it. It's not necessarily something that they "want" or feel happy about, but it just happens when they become horny. I do believe that there are parts of the brain that pushes humans to do things that are wrong because they're just cells, they don't know right from wrong. To be honest, I think child porn in hentai has become a trend already, and there's not much anyone can do to stop it. Only the Japanese governemtn can do something to seriously reduce it.

But the Japanese government has always been run by the Yakuza, so don't expect anything.

Perhaps I am a little severe, but I think that kind of a game is terrible, especially if young people get it, because it affects their education! In this way they don't learn to respect women... It's horrible!

*sigh* why the hell do people get so worked up over this. its animated characters having sex. you're trying to say this is more inappropriate than blowing someones head off in *insert macho super-soldier FPS game here*?

    and in response to

I call bullshit. sure if someone makes you angry your brain tells you to do something about it, but you don't. the same thing applies to the rape and animated child porn (which btw this game isn't. some of the characters are meant to be underaged, but they are fully developed ie at least 14 or so which is contrary to the claim of "child" porn)

my point about the same application of self control is this. you can find something arousing and get off to animated images of whatever the hell you want, but that in no way means that YOU WILL GO RAPE SOMEONE. please that is just a stupid argument. I find millions of women worldwide sexually attractive but I sure as hell haven't raped any of them. there is a fundamental difference between liking something and doing something. if you murder someone, or forcibly have unconsentual sex with someone (child or otherwise) you deserve a very harsh penalty, however finding some sort of pleasure in watching animated/virtual actions is not and should not be punishable.

I think there are tons of crazy stupid game in Japan, especially PC.
they are so harmful for kids, especially teenager.

or even having sex distortion, and of course because they still learn what is right and wrong, they will sure try it at their neighbourhood.

it's quite obvious that this game will provoke people into attempting rape themselves.

    we should ban it.

(i'm joking if you cant tell)
at the bottom of it all, a reason always exists for every thing and every body's action, be it stupid, smart, kind, or mean. but most fail to see past what they see first, and jump to conclusions. too bad.

while i do understand the arguments that we cannot project our ideas of justification onto others, and that a game will probably not make players actually succumb to the actual action of rape, it's still kind of gross to me.

obviously, it's just a personal opinion, but i really do think that even just the act of simulating rape is really horrible. or maybe it's just an inbred notion from society that homicide is...well, not better, per se, but not as bad as rape. because, homicide is killing, true, but rape is like putting 'yourself' at a higher level, one at which you can justify your actions of defiling another person violently. and sometimes it results in death.

but, hey, just a personal opinion. i don't think that people will go out and rape women now (okay, well, some sickos might (there's always the outliers)) but it's just a moral issue.
