Man, 60, arrested for hanging 90-year-old mother in Chiba

    CHIBA —

A 60-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for murder, accused of using a cord tied to an overhead beam to choke his 90-year-old mother to death in their Yachiyo City apartment.

Police said Akiyoshi Ishiwata, who lived in the apartment with his mother, is accused of wrapping the cord around her neck as she sat in a chair and pulling the chair out from under her, causing her to choke to death at around noon on Saturday.

Police said Ishiwata called his ex-wife on Saturday night and told her he had killed his mother, and she in turn called an ambulance. Ishiwata’s mother was found dead lying in a futon.

Ishiwata said his mother had frequented a hospital for psychiatric care. He was quoted by police as saying: “She said she wanted to die, so I helped her.”

man i cant believe someone would do such a thing to their mother
even if she wanted to die, shouldnt it be the son's duty to try to make her final days be filled with loving memories with friends and family
not to play the role of dr. kervorkian

Assisted suicide is a very tough and controversial topic, but in general, those who are suffering greatly physically should be allowed to choose to end their lives. This man's mother may have been in deteriorating health, we don't know, but asphyxiation with a cord is a very painful way to die!

memories? shes going to die so whats the point of giving her good memories. i still dont think its right to kill anyone what ever the reason be but then again who could blame him. another method would have been best though. maybe something quick and painless.
As much as you all can stand to watch shit I would piss, shit, and vomit upon, I would expect others to feel the same way, so I'm not offended. Just be glad that you all don’t like shit that I like. I sure as hell am glad I don’t like shit you all like.

To end ones mother's life is definately hard for any child! But if the old one suffers it's a thing to think about IF the ill one gives their consest to it before. Anyway, not in that aggressive way. It's disguisting to hear about something like that and it shouldn't have happened.

The problem now is that it is the man's word against his mother's, who is already dead. However, given that honor is a very important concept in Japan, such as thing may not be so difficult to them after all. Japan has one of the highest suicide rate in the world after all.

assisted suicide? u mean euthanasia? yea, asphyxiation is a painful way to die. i personally would have recommended drug cocktails and then die in a sleep. in certain circumstances, death is better than living in pain. look at those late stage cancer patients with all sorts of stuff stuck to their bodies and u would get wut i mean.
