    it's coke! it's pepsi! it's healthy?

Coca-Cola has been through many different iterations, including Classic, Diet New, Vanilla, Cherry, etc. But now in Japan, you can find a more natural flavor from a different drink - Green Tea.

The tea will hit stores on June 8. Its healthy antioxidants, called catechins, and slight green tea aftertaste are targeted at health-conscious young women in their twenties and thirties.

“We wanted to cater to people who are looking for something that tastes good but is also good for health and beauty,” said Coca Cola (Japan) Co. spokesman Katsuya Sato on Thursday.

While Coca-Cola is the leader in the Japanese cola market, it faces stiff competition from international rival Pepsi, who will release basil-flavored “Pepsi Shiso” later in June. They also face challenges in the domestic market, as manufacturers of non-carbonated bottled drinks like tea, coffee and fruit juice cut into Coke’s market share.

This sort of stuff is usually pretty exclusive to the japanese consumer market :\ Probably isn't likely to be released in western countries, though perhaps your local asian grocery store may import some over in the future.

Why don't people just drink green tea straight up? The caffeine and sugar (whether it be sucrose or aspartame) in the cola probably negate all the health benefits that the green tea antioxidants provide!

lol talk about trying to expand.... but i've never been that fond of anything other than regular coke, though the occasional coke zero is okay. the green-tea aftertaste doesn't sound so great, though; won't it be super-bitter because of the extremely sweet coke? :S

    wonder if it's just a limited-time thing...

I never thought they'd come up with this one. I'm a little interested on how this stuff would taste and how the market will respond to this kind of thing. For an Asian country who, based on the culture stuffs that i've seen and read, favors the tea, i think it'll be a hit.

This is something i'm looking forward too. I'm imaginating it would taste a little of green tea with soda. But if everyone goes for this new drink, what would happen to the previous types? But nonetheless,a splendid creation ^^.

I think other countries in the west dont come up with drinks like this because they know it would fail lol not saying its bad, just think of regional tastes and preferences before novelty factor

Hmm.....Shiso Pepsi and Green Tea Coke....
I guess they ran out of crayons to color their drinks and are now resorting to natural ingredients to do the trick for the latest fads

i'd love to try green tea coke, but if they really have a real green tea taste, it would taste rather weird or bitter from the sweetness, like eating chocolates and drink green tea. hopefully T&T will stock it.

    Interesting...
I think I'd try it, but I'd never ever want to drink it EVER AGAIN! I don't even believe you could make Coke "healthy" with all that high fructose corn syrup in there.
BTW, has anyone seen that Green Tea Ginger Ale? Supposedly it's really good, and no...it wasn't marketed as being healthier. I think it's just that now the Asian invasion in North America is so popular, adding green tea to just about ANYTHING makes it extra tasty? HAHAHA

Count me out too. Why can't people just drink regular tea. On one hand I do like the huge amount of variety in Japanese soft drinks (and other foods really), but this is just a bad gimmick.

    Wow Green Tea Coke...

    That remember me something...

8 or 7 years ago in my country (Argentina) Coke (Coca~Cola here xD) put in stores a drink called ''Nativa'', a Yerba Mate flavored drink; but nobody bought that xDD

hmmm 4 months later Coke stopped the sale of the drink

aahh! ''yerba mate'' is a natural(and very popular) drink of my country.. something like japanese green tea
