Popular singer and DJ Yoon Jong-shin caught some flack after he made some insulting remarks about women during his radio show "Have a Date at Two o'Clock" on MBC FM. Yoon, introducing a Trot song called "A Lady Like Soda Pop", said, "Women are like sashimi. They should be fresh. Men are always looking for new women. They get tired of old girlfriends."
In reply, Yoon's guest Jung Ji-chan said, "But if a guy dumps his old girlfriend for a fresh one, another guy might get her for fish stew (made of older fish). Then he'll envy that new guy."
Yoon replied, "Or he can dump an old girlfriend until she's fermented like skate (which tastes better after it's aged)."
The remarks prompted an outburst of anger from listeners.
After the show, people began to post fiery messages on MBC's website. Some suggested that a complaint be filed with the Korean Broadcasting Commission, while others questioned how Yoon's wife might feel about the comments.
"(Yoon's remarks were) totally inappropriate for broadcast. He isn't up to the standards as an MC," another wrote.
Yoon apologized on Sunday. "I did it for fun, but I admit that I was being derisive of women," he said. "I'm at a loss for more words of apology. And I learned a lot from this."
