I have to say, though this is kinda cheating, that I LOVE Orange Range in their single, "Hana".
Hokama Hiroki's voice at the beginning of that song really sounds like pure, raw, emotion.
Mmm, another "J-pop" (if you use the term lightly) voice that I really enjoy is Miyavi! In his Seven Samurai Sessions, when he's doing Girls, Be Ambitious and Ame ni Utaeba, he hits the melody perfectly with his guitar! It's sounds amazing!
I just wish I could sing like either one of them!hahahaha
NEWS (THEY ARE SO HOT)
Ito yuna
Koda Kumi
Utada Hikaru
Ito Yuna
Amuro Namie
Crystal Kay
Aragaki Yui (Though she's not that good)

Utada Hikaru, I never get tired of hearing any of her songs. A close second, if we're counting groups, is Perfume.
of course Ohno Satoshi from Arashi
he has great voice ^.^
i wouldn't exactly consider hanaregumi jpop, actually not even close, but it is by far and above my favorite japanese music
I love
-Berryz Kobo (They're cute)
-Perfume (i love electro sound)
-Namie Amuro (love her voice)
-Freenote (Their music is great)
I love RURUTIA the most because her sweet voice is so heavenly and it alway makes me feel like its so sad and sorrow at the same time its meaningful lyrics tells something. In other words, its a nice and emotional song. (:
CHEERs for Lost Butterfly :P

I love how you asked for constructive reasons but didn't give any xD.
Anyway, my favorite J-pop artist is Tommy February6. I think she has a very unique 80's synth pop cute feel to her music which I love, and her look is super adorable. It also doesn't hurt that she works on her two separate labels (February6 and Heavenly6) at the same time :P

my fav now is Kalafina
dunno if u guys heard of it be4
same composer as the fictionjunction (group) - yuuka =]
i personally love singing similar to a cappella - yes im a very classical music person =]
and the backing is just GREAT =]
sry if im spamming =] =]
anywayz
yuna ito is not bad, depends on what style u like
oh yeh, i also like kawada mami
I would agree with Shadowzzz2213 on Kalafina, though I'm not sure if they can be considered as J-Pop artists... Maybe it's just me, but I have difficulties to classify music into genres. If by J-Pop music you refer strictly to a kind of sound, then I would choose I've, because I just love the way they mix pop and trance.
But if you asked in terms of "Japanese Music", then my number one is definitively Shikata Akiko, for her incredible voice and compositions. She's the one who did the Ar Tonelico soundtracks, between other things. She has a very... "medieval" feeling, and lots of chorus melodies; I would place her between Kalafina/ Kajiura Yuki and Sound Horizon, in terms of music style.
-Hamasaki Ayumi
-HIGH and MIGHTY Color
-Cherryblossom
-UVERworld
They all have just a great voice and create such cool songs ^o^
I want your blood, give it to me
I taste your cells, instinctively
Come, drink my blood, lose all reason
Out of control, instinctively
Light the fire of desire
He awaits sweet depravity, ha ha!
My Fav is Hamasaki Ayumi. First Jpop artist that I heard, and have been a fan of hers ever since. Though I do like Several others. Currently stuck on Wakeshima Kanon. ^^
I guess my favorite is Kimura Kaela. She's the only one that seems to be successful at every music genre she tries. She's done punk, rock, pop, ballad, dance and they've all been great.
