It does depend on the person, but Japanese also has more "polite language" than English does... Such as honorific and humble vocabulary.
I don't really find that japanese language is really rude. Instead i find it more towards polite more den rude. But all language can be rude depending on how the user uses it. That what i think.

I love the language! Hmm, I say baka a lot with my friend. She laughs every time because baka almost sounds like vaca in spanish which means cow. We love to learn new words in Japanese, and when you learn new ones the first words people tend to learn are the curse ones. And my friend knows quite a bit. Still she's not into that, she is even going to take the Japanese language course next spring. It's not a rude language, it's very complex... but what language isn't?![]()

From what I understand, Japanese is the only language that has a, erm...way of speech, for every single situation. You talk a certain way to younger/older male/females and so on.
So, using that as a base, haha I'd say it can be soft when it has to and really rude when people want to be rude.
Jap language is very polite, they assuming people with difference title depend on individual age. Although thier language is kinda complicated when start learning but after you know the basic pronunciation you'll understand most of the word.
Compared to other eastern language i would say Jap is kinda polite, well I got chinese language background too so most of the meaning in Jap kanji can be guessed lol.
yeah i think that the jp language is too polite. too formal too.

makoto hagino from "do you like horny bunnies? 2"

well it all depends on the terms you choose to use, it can be very polite or very rude XD
its precisely because of all these that makes Japanese so hard to learn in my opinion...
I agree with drirelan. For example - for a non-japanese speaker -, it's much more difficult to understand Japanese men than women because men use a specific vocabulary which seems a little rude. Women speak more like the japanese we can find in books to learn japanese language, that is to say more "polite".
The dialect I speak~ from Osaka is considered rude to a lot of people
But it's all in fun ^___^
IT depends where you are from Japan, different dialects make it sounds more rude or more polite ~

japanese can not be rude language because the terms of abuse in japanese are few and their degree is too weak. their most extreme abuse is "bi*ch". we need not enlarge further upon this point.
To me it all depends. What may be rude to one culture maybe be perfectly fine to another. Another thing is sometimes people speak really fast but it seems like normal to them. To the outsider it may look like they are arguing when they are having a perfectly normal conversation.

The first time i heard japanese language, i'm falling in lovebecause it's unique ! i like the intonation. Every time i saw japanese people in my country, i always watched the way they talked. i'm stunned! Did somebody want to teach me how to speak japanese ?? ^_^

in the japanese language there are different levels of politeness you can speak with depending on who you are talking to etc...
but its mainly just the western perspective/influence where people who watch anime just remember a few words like baka and recite it..which affects how people view the language..
its just like the word 'otaku' where westerners believe it only means 'person who is addicted to anime'.Well it does, but in the japanese society an otaku is also an ignorant noob who does not except do anime related stuff who is a burden to the family and society due to their inability to work and feed off their parents, causing the aging population in Japan who dont accept their responsiblities and have no inpout into society. they are normall shunned and a form of embarrassment and shame for a family. Casual anime is alright, but proclaiming you are an otaku just brings a negative image upon yourself...
the japanese langauge is sophisciated and not only refined to anime and the colloquial langauge present in the anime
it's polite, and depend of the situation also theres a diferent way to talk if you are man or woman.
