    Recommended Pillows albums?

Hey all, was just wondering if anyone could tell me which are the better/popular pillows albums? I would get them all, but i'm actually gonna buy them and i don't wanna spend that much money (they have what, 11 albums or something?) I already have the 3rd volume of the FLCL soundtrack and I'd rather not get one of the albums that have too many of the songs on that soundtrack. Here's the tracklist for it.

    1. SAD SAD KIDDIE
    2. SLEEPY HEAD
    3. I THINK I CAN
    4. BLUES DRIVE MONSTER
    5. CARNIVAL
    6. COME DOWN
    7. CRAZY SUNSHINE
    8. STALKER
    9. NIGHTMARE
    10. FUNNY BUNNY
    11. BEAUTIFUL MORNING WITH YOU
    12. ADVICE
    13. RUNNERS HIGH
    14. HYBRID RAINBOW
    15. LITTLE BUSTERS
    16. LAST DINOSAUR
    17. RIDE ON SHOOTING STAR

some recommendations would really be appreciated.

when you listen to the pillows, there are three disctinct sound phases. early 90s, mid to late 90s, and newer stuff. in my mind there are key differences between early 2000s and mid 2000s, technically making it four phases, but i'll stop there. all of them have merit, but most of my personal favorites come from the mid 90s period. most of the FLCL songs are from that time as well, and any album released during that frame is going to have a few FLCL songs on it. but there's so much else there it would be unfortunate to shy away from them for that reason. my first recommendation would be Another Morning, Another Pillows which is a b side compilation from 2002. after that, since we're looking for things you haven't heard before, i'd say go to early 2000s stuff like Smile, Penalty Life, or Thank You, My Twilight. but again my favorite stuff comes from late 90s, so give those albums a try too. i have several links posted here (scroll down to last post). [Discography] The Pillows it's a pretty poor excuse for a discography, and in most cases i have better versions now than what's posted in the links. i've been meaning to redo it, since i have a lot of albums/singles not listed there, but haven't gotten around to it yet. if you run into something you want that's not there feel free to ask. please excuse how long winded this reply is, but i love the pillows.

If you want to try some of their new albums, I think My Foot and Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up are pretty good. Also, I'm really liking their newish single "Lady Bird."

I couldn't find an album version, but heres the live version.

torukien in this case long winded is good I'll definitely listen to your suggestion and look at the mid 90s stuff, however im not sure about the B-side you mentioned just cause its a b side...lol ill probably check that one out anyway. Thanks for the trial links vagabond (is it ok to thank? i did already use the thanks button). Soflodukie i was actually thinking about getting wake up, but then decided to make this thread first.

EDIT: I'm actually thinking of just getting Lostman Go To Yesterday since its a compilation, and as i already said, im not gonna get ALL of the pillows albums (well not for a long time anyway). Is it something like a greatest hits?

FLCL soundtrack for the win. Some of their best songs are from there.

There is the fine four: "Please Mister Lostman," "RUNNERS HIGH," "Little Busters," and "Happy Bivouac." Also go for "Thank you, my twilight."

i dislike the fact that people know the pillows because of FLCL. like vagabond said, all of their stuff is great. i personally like the Kool Spice album the best though. the pillows arent about being "good". they try hard which is what makes the good. you should hear everything.
As much as you all can stand to watch shit I would piss, shit, and vomit upon, I would expect others to feel the same way, so I'm not offended. Just be glad that you all don’t like shit that I like. I sure as hell am glad I don’t like shit you all like.

Personally I see nothing wrong with finding out about the Pillows through FLCL (I am one of them after all), but what is annoying I guess is people liking the Pillows BECAUSE of FLCL. "OMG it's the FLCL band!!! EH!?!?! They have other songs too!?" Then again the same can be said about any other band that had some songs used for anime. I don't avidly search out new bands, so anime is actually one of my main sources of J-rock/pop. If I like them enough then I will buy the albums, as I've done with Asian Kung Fu Generation, the Pillows and a few others. I do intend to hear all their stuff eventually, but as I've already said, it's gonna take awhile...
