Jay Chou releases 8th album amid thriving film career

TAIPEI -- Taiwanese pop sensation Jay Chou released his eighth album Thursday, fresh from his debut as a movie director.

"Jay Chou on the Run" is an eclectic mixture of R&B and soul-baring ballads, leavened with some unexpected humor.

The first cut on the album is "Cowboy on the Run," a country-styled song that makes fun of the stereotypical image of a brawling, beer-swilling cowpoke.

Other notable entries include the apparently autobiographical "I Don't Deserve It," bemoaning a celebrity's lack of privacy, and "Sunny Geeks," which deals with men who feel awkward about their appearance.

Chou's JVR Music said "Jay Chou on the Run" is a snapshot of the singer's burgeoning career.

"This album reflects his current life better than any previous ones," the company said in a statement. "He uses music to remind people to have fun in life even when they are very busy."

Chou, who is one of Taiwan's leading pop idols, recently branched out into films, appearing in three roles on the silver screen. Earlier this year he made his directorial debut with "Secret," a love story that achieved good success at the box office.

well the first track was quite funny, it was a little awkward considering the type of music jay had done in the past. but over all i liked the album

His latest album is awkward....

Maybe he's trying to create another taste of music in his history, maybe I (or perhaps we) just have to wait patiently till he finally create another peak in his music world. For now, just take it as "unsuitable experiments"... Hehe.

well....i neva really liked his voice (some of it is good at times) ! BUT WOW his lyrics i luv! well...the lyrics for his songs, though i really really don like his attitude at the moment! he use to be kind and stuff and sing for sars etc. now his jus like oh im so big and kewl and popular, no one can beat me oh im so good! man it pisses me off >.<

When i first hear the track cowboy on the run, i thought it sounds very familiar, like i've hear it before. Anyway, I like that Jay got the guts to try others genre of music. Hope he'll come out with more interesting songs before i get tired of his music!

I quite liked his new album, tian tian de is very addicting, especially when ran at 2x speed.
About his film ventures, I find that although both the directing(for Secret) and the acting seems a bit lackluster, it's overall quite commendable for a first-timer.

I agreed with you, anyway only some of his musics were great, such like "Chai Houng- Rainbow" and "Wo Bu Pei", if compared to all his albums, I can say his PV is the one getting more interesting rather than the music....
