Smile Music Video Producers Fined For Plagiarism

A major entertainment agency and two of its producers have been fined for plagiarism.

The Seoul Central District Court ruled Friday that Fantom Entertainment Group must pay compensation of 10 million won for plagiarizing several scenes from the famous Japanese computer game ``Final Fantasy 7'' to produce a music video for K-pop star Ivy.

The company's two producers, in charge of producing the music album and video, were also fined six million won each.

"It is clear that about 80 percent of the game's contents, such as the story line, background and costume, had been reproduced, violating intellectual property rights," the presiding judge said.

    Wow, that's really big!

In that clip it says something like "the action scenes in this film is a recreation of FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN".. it sounds like a disclaimer, lol, do you know if it was on the original video?

No one gets away with using Square's stuff. They will get you good. Someone told me about 2 Chrono Trigger fan remakes that were going to be free that Square shut down.

That music video was a total copy. They should have gotten permission first before using that idea.

haha, putting that it's a recreation doesn't let you make a music video using squenix's intellctual property. i'm surprised they didn't know any better. just like all the school plays that schools put on, they need to buy the rights to perform them. unless they totally completely change the story somehow so that it's not even close to the original....but they'd still need to buy the title i think. lol. i work at a summer day camp and whenever we put on musicals, we need to buy the rights to perform the play from an officially licensed distributor. the songs aren't usually the same to save on licensing fees, but the story and characters and such are the same.

man... i can understand that creative people need to be 'inspired' by other ppl's work..which i think is great~ we all need inspiration~ but to just straight copy? that's just lame.
