"Death Note" wins DVD Data Award

Media magazine DVD Data announced the winners of its 21st DVD Data Awards. In the Japanese film category, the top honors went to the "Death Note" movie and its sequel. The movies were released together on DVD in March 2007, and the set sold 260,000 copies, ranking 10th for the year. The set also was successful in rental stores.

The DVD of the spinoff movie "L change the WorLd" is being released this week and is expected to also sell well. The movie grossed 3.1 billion yen during its theatrical run earlier this year.

The DVD Data Awards also includes a Best Talento Award. This year, it was given to popular actor Shun Oguri.

it is weird that such bad movies score such high selling scores

really to be honest the Death note live actions were really bad compared to the manga or the animated version

that's exactly why it was a success....simply cuz it's called DEATH NOTE
fans got heavily attached to the manga and were overexited to see things move in a live action
so anyone who heard of death note's awsomeness went to see the movies...that's nearly every otaku out there in japan

as for shun oguri,he did a nice job in CROWS ZERO...the movie's story was average, but the fight scenes kicked some ass

I just don't like the death note live actions . Compared to manga and anime, anime and manga is quite exciting. I wonder why they just buy death note anime or manga than buy this kinda of live action

    death note is overrated.
towards this "acomplishment", im disappointed. the last thing i want is have people talking about death note this and that.

    @boy
thats a lot of bullsh*t. the majority of people began to read the manga when they saw the anime was a hit. honestly new death note fans piss me off. just seeing them makes me regret i liked the mangas back in 2003.
As much as you all can stand to watch shit I would piss, shit, and vomit upon, I would expect others to feel the same way, so I'm not offended. Just be glad that you all don’t like shit that I like. I sure as hell am glad I don’t like shit you all like.

    that IS bs
if the manga became a hit after the anime, the movies would have never got such a fame in ALL asia einstein

it's not overrated a single bit,it's simply the best,in terms of EVERYTHING

maybe you know loads of pissoff fanboys and girls who knew the manga only after the anime, but know for sure that they don't compare in number to the fans before that

seriously,i don't see the logic in hating the manga cuz many annoying fans started liking it...

Well, I loved Death Note when I first read it, but now if you walk around a convention you see so many L-Misia-Light cosplay groups, Death Note merchandise and people squealing about it, "kyaa~ it's raitochaaan~ ^_^ it's so kawaiii~~ <3"..

Obsessed fans can spoil a good manga. I love Death Note, but I don't want to feel like I'm one of those fans!

read properly. i never said the manga was a hit after the anime. i said that the majority of people that have read the manga read it after they heard there was an anime.

death note is overrated. you just dont admit it cuz you like it too much to accept the facts.

overrated means it's not good enough but receives a lot of credit....that's not the case
it IS good and it receives loads of credit...that's a perfect fit,no overrating

I don't think it's overrated at all. It's one of the most original anime I have ever seen. Also, I've read the manga first before watching the anime. When I first saw the manga, I was like, "Holy shit, this is freakin' good! I wish they make an anime of this!" And when they did, I was like, "HELL YEAH!!"

So yea, I don't think it's overrated. And the movies aren't that bad either, it's just that the manga and anime are way better. Although I had some trouble fitting the chronological timeline of L: Change The World to the other two movies.

Death Note should actually win #1! Although as there are more sequels [including L Change the World], it started getting less and less interesting, especially L Change the World - fans of DN were expecting more mystery to be solved, not action :/
