Keanu Reeves to go Bebop for Spike?

Some fans may want to reach for the bottle with this one as Keanu Reeves is saying he's very interested in taking on the role of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop for the live action adaptation. As discussed at ICv2, Reeves told MTV that he was eager to play Cowboy Bebop protagonist and futuristic space cowboy, Spike Spiegel. “We’ve got the rights, we’ve got a writer, and he’s putting together a scene outline,” Reeves told MTV about the Cowboy Bebop project, which is set up at Fox. According to Reeves the live action film will focus on the origins of the Bebop team of bounty hunters and will incorporate the conclusion to the 26-episode anime and at least some of the episodic adventures explored in the series.

According to ICv2, Cowboy Bebop is one of the most popular anime TV series ever broadcast in the U.S. By the middle of 2005, Bandai Entertainment had already sold over a million Cowboy Bebop DVDs, and the idiosyncratic series continues to get exposure on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.


Fox is currently working through another anime/manga to live action adaptation with the Dragonball: Evolution feature which is due out next year.

Oh why...why are they targeting animes to be made into movies?! That's just like a pickle in peanut butter, its unwanted! However, if it might be able to help people become more open about anime and what not... maybe? I don't know...chiggy... Couldn't they have used a different person to play Spike??

cowboy bebop is an epic one, but also it's possible to be a live action movie that is hard to be effed up...
if america failed to make this one... that will really shows their quality...

Are American movie makers that low on ideas? I think so and I am American. I love Cowboy Bebop and I hate to see it ruined. You need an actor that is charismatic to play Spike. Lord only knows who they will find to play Faye.

...im hoping and hoping against hope that they actually make this a decent movie. anime into live-action is already a usually iffy situation and add american movie-makers and keanu as spike (not that i have anything against keanu, i mean i like his matrix movies, but as spike?) into it, im not really liking the sound of that.

This is the worst news I've had all week.
Keanu Reeves cannot act to save his life. He's going to kill one of my favorite characters of all time. I haven't even heard anything else about the movie and I've already lost all hope for it.
Why must Hollywood stick their noses into everything that seems to be popular and destroy it with what they think will sell???

if you want to make live action movie from anime series, you should give it to the japanese. there's already ton of *bad* examples of live adaptation from anime made by Hollywood.
and further more, Cowboy Bepop is the best anime series i've ever watched and they will ruined it.
