"Higurashi" movie scheduled for '08

A live-action movie for the "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" franchise has been announced for 2008. The film, which is being directed by Ataru Oikawa, begins shooting on the 14th.

"Higurashi" started out as a series of visual novels, but has so far been adapted to manga, anime, and other media. The film is said to be initially opening on a single screen, with the hope that its popularity will spread by word of mouth, much like the original games.

The cast includes Gouki Maeda, Rin Asuka, and Airi Matsuyama.

i love Higurashi no naku koro ni. and Kai. but a MOVIE!!! awww can't wait, i wanna see if they "Live-Action" the part where Keiichi beats rika and satoko while their sleeping, lol i know i sound crazy/twisted its just that, that ONE(maybe) part made me literally piss myself. i was soo shocked/scared.

And also

Anyone know if the movie will be 1+2=movie or its just going to be Higurashi's first season?

If the movie can recreate the same creepy and edgy atmosphere as the show it should be worth watching. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

This will be a adaption of the first story arc (Onikakushi-hen - Spirited Away by the Demon Chapter) (the first series). It will go through the whole first series in this movie. Then after that will be another movie (hopefully) which will be Meakashi-hen (higurashi no naku koro ni kai) the second series which is the answer arc.
